I will be training as an emergency medicine resident at Maimonides Medical Center in Borough Park. Debbie Bowers Warren (Line 58): Hello! (3/12/2007) I continue to be fortunate enough to catch babies. It's a job that is 97% fun and games--and really awful about 3% of the time--but that has so many rewards. My older daughter Emme is 7 and her sister Caroline is 5 1/2. They challenge us every step of the way. Looking forward to meeting Caleb one day! Frank Buttitta (Line 45): Coincidences (3/11/2007) My regular tennis doubles partner here in Chicago is Jim Fitzgerald, Line 50. Dave Miller (Line 63.5): Ch-ch-changes (3/10/2007) Life has changed a great deal for us since Max's arrival last May. We got to play a top 100 golf course, took part in Penn and Teller's act, had great meals and we both ended up ahead in the casino. Too bad I didn't win enough for Peg's re-election campaign! Michelle Sefczek McSorley (Line 86): Now I'm Irish! (12/21/2006) I married Kevin McSorley on December 2, 2006 in DC. We enjoyed our honeymoon in Innsbruck, Austria and reside in Arlington. Maura Harty (Line 45): From the keynote speaker (10/26/2006) The 50th was tremendous and I am so very impressed by all the hard work that went into planning that event. Many thanks, once again, for the opportunity to participate. I continue to serve as Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs. Oh, and for those of you who ever look at the letterhead on the Mu Alpha mailings, I'm on line 64, love ya 66, but, well, not that much. Take care, Jeff Robert Tobin (Line 62): New Baby makes 6 (10/19/2006) Lisa and I, along with Twins Maya and Yossi, and 2.5 yr old Ezra, welcomed little Avi Ilan Tobin to the world on 9/17/2006. We all live in Westport, CT, where I am the rabbi of the aptly named "The Conservative Synagogue." Recently Marc Stahl and Ellen Ahern visited, and we'd love to see you if you are in the area. Unfortunately, the puplit weekend duties make it impossible to attend most of Mu Alpha's ceremonies these days, but you are in my heart. David Ragone (Line 97): New City, New Life (9/21/2006) I'm in Boston for at least the year, living with my girlfriend and looking for work that is somewhat interesting. Currently temping in the financial services field and just getting by with what three years ago I would've considered great pay. Jennifer Bakht Doverspike (Line 95): Just married (9/13/2006) Adam (89) and I had a wonderful wedding last Saturday in my hometown of Suffolk, Virginia. We had quite the APO contingent, and although we didn't get in a round of the toast song, there was definitely the fight song and some "Hoya Saxa"ing going on. We're currently living in Durham, NC, although we may be moving soon to Pittsboro, NC or Apex, NC to be closer to my new job down at Fort Bragg (but staying close enough to Durham as Adam is in his first year at Duke Law). A major shoutout to our APO sisters Melissa Halle (95) (who did a great job as bridesmaid this weekend!) and Jenn Brookland (94) (who was the one who 're' introduced us senior year and so is responsible for this mess!) David (Dave) Linsalata (Line 89): B-School, baby (9/10/2006) Quick update - I did get into b-school, and I'm now at the Kellogg School of Management in Chicago for the next two years. Adam Doverspike (Line 89): Another year, another adventure (8/9/2006) A year ago, I got engaged and headed off to graduate school. So this year I will be getting married (one month from today) and starting Law School. Happily for Jennifer and me, we will be back in the South at Duke Law in North Carolina. Unfortunately, she is still looking for employment and the best chance is across the state at Fort Bragg near Fayetteville. It looks likely (although not in stone yet) that we will be living somewhere in between with nice 1 hour commutes in opposite directions. All in all though, we are very happy to be living in the same place and starting our lives together. Every day brings a new smile due to the transition from grad student to settled man. Vince Green (Line 64): Kid (8/1/2006) Dante William Green was born at 2:28 a.m. on July 25, 2006. He was 8 lb. 1 oz. and 20 1/2". Victoria and baby are doing well. Kevin Dumouchelle (Line 89): Ph.D. @ Columbia. (8/1/2006) Moving to New York in mid-August...! Elizabeth Khalil (Line 80): Bought a Condo In Downtown DC! (6/13/2006) After a long search, I finally bought a condo! I've been writing about the search process, including in this month's Washingtonian magazine - now I will have to start chronicling the decorating process. :) It's in the "Penn Quarter"/Chinatown area of DC, near the Gallery Place-Chinatown and Archives-Navy Memorial Metro stops. So far, I love it, both the place itself and the fact that I can walk to and from work if I want to. The area is amazing...it's really come a long way in the past few years. Now I have Bed Bath & Beyond and Legal Sea Foods right down the street, and some of the best pizza in the city. Half a mile north of me, Calvary and House of Ruth are surrounded by luxury condos and construction sites where future luxury condos and retail are being built. I still can't get over that. Right now I am in the midst of achieving my interior-design vision. As soon as that's completed, DC people, stay tuned for a condo-warming party sometime this summer! (And if anyone needs bubble wrap or empty moving boxes, give me a call!) Kathy Kubovic Becker (Line 50): Hike for Discovery (6/8/2006) I'm participating in a very exciting fundraiser this October for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society called Hike for Discovery. Anyone who would like to sponsor me can visit my webpage: http://www.active.com/donate/hfdwhv/hfdKBecker Thanks for your support! Jeff Marcella (Line 64): HUGE NEWS (3/31/2006) Ok, I really am writing this half a year later, but want to let everyone know that just after the wonderful 50th anniversary weekend of Mu Alpha we got even more exciting news, and on March 31st we adopted Caleb Israel Patrick Marcella, the most wonderful baby on earth. Bobbi Wiedel Dumas (Line 66): What a Week-end! (3/21/2006) Just a quick post to say what a wonderful job the planning committee did on the 50th! And how kind GU was to get those buildings finished for us in time for the celebration... Anyway, I am once again reminded of how amazing the fraternity is, and the terrific people associated with it. We are indeed blessed to be a part of such a special group. Kathy Kubovic Becker (Line 50): 50th Anniversary / Interest in Social Work (3/19/2006) I totally enjoyed the 50th Anniversary Celebration, reuniting with Dave and Woodie from my line and reconnecting with many special brothers from 20+ years ago. It was also great meeting some of the undergrads and more recent alums. I'm proud to call you all my brothers... If any alum (or undergrad) is interested in a career in Social Work, he or she should feel free to contact me. The lion's share of my experience is in medical social work, but I've also provided fee-for-service therapy in a community mental health clinic and counseled crime victims at the Brooklyn DA's office. My MSW is from NYU, which I highly recommend. Look forward to staying in touch! John Mini (Line 53): (3/14/2006) Also: 405 West 23rd Street, #14D New York, NY 10011 (302) 363 4744 CELL John Anderson (Line 66): baby.....dump (3/8/2006) Gosh, somehow a baby girl came to us-Ella now 8 mos old. (2/11/2006) Victoria and I are expecting our first in July. Perhaps now I will start to understand the conversations my friends have been having for the past five or so years. Elizabeth Khalil (Line 80): Reunited, and It Feels So Good (or it will!) (2/9/2006) I'm looking forward to seeing everyone over the anniversary weekend and catching up! I just have to figure out how I am going to go from being covered in peanut butter from the sandwich-making project to looking glamorous only a few hours later. :) I'm still in DC, working as an attorney at the OCC (the federal agency that regulates national banks), still loving my apartment in Cleveland Park but searching for a condo in Penn Quarter/Chinatown. I'm getting lots of writing opportunities out of the condo-search process, though, so actually buying a place is kind of secondary now. (: BTW, did you know that Helen Cha also works at my agency (in the NYC office)? Small world! Bill Fung (Line 38): It's a wonderful World (2/8/2006) Hello, Fantastic to read about all the brothers/sisters past and present. Will help when my wife (Denise) & I attend the 50th reunion. We have lived in Denver Colorado area since 1987. I am a real estate agent with Keller Williams Realty and have been practicing real estate for 16+ years. Not a bad job for someone who originally attend GU SLL. Thanks to all the hard work of the APO brothers, I now have contact information for one of the brothers I knew - Dave Rideout. Of course I am excited to see that many of the brothers I know will be attending the 50th. All Mu Alpha bros/Sis are always welcomed to call, visit, and say hello whenever they happen to be in the Denver CO area. See you soon. Karyl Roberts (Line 80): (1/25/2006) I greatly enjoyed reading everyone's updates, so thought I should add my own. I graduated from Boston College law school in 2004 and now live in New Hampshire with my husband (Andy) and son (Will, born 5/23/05). I work at the federal district court in Concord and spend most of my free time being a mom. I am happy to see that Mu Alpha is still going strong and I hope to reconnect with everyone soon! Jason Sorrentino (Line 76): Not enough time to study (1/24/2006) I had remembered that this year was the upcoming 50th Anniversary and had just checked out the website to see what was going on with it. I am going to try to attend the 50th Anniversary and bring my wife to meet everybody. In addition to getting married and moving, I graduated law school this past December and am in the midst of Bar exam preparation so I don't get out much at least until the end of February. Anyway, finances permitting (ie, graduating student with loans and no job) we will try to attend. I will know more after the bar exam when my mind is more focused. I hope all is well and I look forward to the opportunity to see everyone again. I miss APO and all the good times. George Grossman (Line 32): See you in March! (1/21/2006) It is with great pleasure that I re-establish my kinship with Mu Alpha Chapter of APO. As any of my fellow pledge line members will recall, it seemed as if I fell off the planet for a while. I am pleased to report that I am alive, well (with a new hip to boot) and living with my wife Tara and daughters Tory and Alexandra in Harrison NY. Best to all and I will join with you in celebrating the chapter's Golden anniversary in March. Christian Brenninkmeijer (Line 59): Married with 4 Kids (1/6/2006) Married with four children Benjamin, Rebecca, Charlotte and Samuel. I am currently working on a PhD in Computer Science at the University of Manchester, England. Looking forward to seeing you all at the 50th! Debbie Bowers Warren (Line 58): Debbie Bowers 58 (12/20/2005) Hey -- We just got home from a trip to Italy celebrating our 10th anniversary. Saw Sean and Gina on the heels of Mark Voronin -- we also lost our lugage! Wow what a view of the Colleseum they have! Looking forward to seeing everyone in the spring -- Cliff Elkins (Line 5): (12/5/2005) I'll try to not make this sound like a resume but since graduating from SFS in 1958 - I have had a varied career mostly in international transportation. Having worked in the steamship industry in Calif, the State of NY's DOT- Congressional Staff Director, lobbyiest and currently I am a City Councilman in Surprise, AZ as well as a substitute high school teacher. Stacey Engelbrecht Rufe (Line 71): (11/27/2005) Charlotte is continuing to grow. She's almost two and is starting to assert her independence. I'm back practicing law part time. We're still in Richmond, but I'm planning to travel up to DC (solo) for the 50th anniversary. Hope to see everyone there!! Bryan Dalton (Line 54): Liking Romania (11/26/2005) Bucharest will be home for Nam, our dog Devi and me until 2008 and it is suiting us well. I am trying to apply the lessons learned in APO to life and work. Brothers show up here as government visitors like Joe Sanchez and Maura Harty or nearby colleagues like Carolyn Gorman who is at the embassy in Croatia. I'm afraid I can't make it back for the 50th, but I hope you have a great turnout! Brian Devlin (Line 9): (11/22/2005) Still hard at work. We are trying to develop a retail sales office in Palm Beach FL. I rought my group from Whitaker to Ramirez in May 05 to focus on retail business in Florida even though I will remain in the NY office. Finally finished with education and the last of six now works for JP Morgan Chase Bank. Luck to all. See you at the 50th! John Casciano (Line 17): (11/22/2005) I joined Ball Aerospace in June 2004 and work in Chantilly VA. Ball does a lot of leading-edge things including the recent NASA mission called Deep Impact. Pat and I will celecbrate our 35th wedding anniversary in December 2005. Our son John is a lawyer at Steptoe Johnson in DC. We have four grandkids: Bennett (8), Charlie (6), Will (5) and Jack (11 months). Thomas Perich (Line 19): (11/22/2005) Partner in the law firm of Andrews Kurth LLP which is coming up on its 30th anniversary. Greg Belli (Line 34): (11/22/2005) I'm teaching Reading to Newcomers at Austin International High School. Brothers (and sisters) are welcome in Austin. Carolyn Dawkins (Line 54): (11/22/2005) Currently drawing up plans in the near future of building a house overlooking the salt marsh in Charleston South Carolina. Mark Voronin (Line 59): (11/22/2005) Just spent three months chasing women in the South--Katrina, Rita and Wilma. Assesing exposure for an insurance company. I am spending Thanksgiving in Rome with Sean and Gina Kennedy. Freddie Fields (Line 61): (11/22/2005) Fred has been named director of the Leadership Institute at the United Way of NYC which cultivates emerging leaders in the city's non-profit sector. Teresa Weber (Line 87) and I had lunch last week. Jennifer Farmer (Line 81): (11/22/2005) I am a resident at Duke University Hospital in Internal Medicine. I hope I am able to make it for the big 50th but my schedule is unfortunately not up to me. Myron Kyj (Line 18): Dinner with Tony (11/21/2005) My wife, Larissa, and daughter Lada (a doctoral student at Rice) had a wonderful evening with Tony Perich and his wife Debra in Houston in October. Tom Liebermann (Line 21): Razzing Gerry (11/2/2005) I was truly sorry that I could not be at Georgetown this fall for the unduction of the new brothers of this line dedicated (nationwide!) to our very own Jerry Schroeder. I was able to host him, however, on his trip to Luther College in November. See you in the Spring. Devashree Gupta (Line 74): (10/31/2005) Greetings Brothers and Sisters, I am back in the US now - I've finished my field work and am turning to the actual writing of my dissertation (to be completed by summer 2006). Fortunately, it looks like I've been lucky in the job search - I am probably going to accept an offer from Carleton College in Northfield, MN (just south of the Twin Cities). It's a small school - around 1900 students - but it packs an academic wallop, being ranked #5 among all liberal arts colleges in the country. Plus, being from the midwest, the faculty there are just so gosh darn nice. So, barring an amazing counteroffer from somewhere else, it looks like I'll be in Minnesoooota come Fall 2006. Kathryn Forbush Schatz (Line 74): Hope to make 50th (10/31/2005) I will try to be down for the 50th in March. I hope everyone else can too! David Beam (Line 50): News (10/17/2005) Message from David Beam (B-Bop) from Line 50. I'm not sure how broad this distribution is, but most of you probably don't know me because I've been out of DC for the past 12 years in the Foreign Service. I'm back for at least a year and would like to meet some of the bros I don't know....Clearly, I'm getting old. I had just pledged when we had the 25th anniversary. I'm interested in helping out with the 50th if you can use an extra set of hands. My local information is: 1801 Crystal Drive, Apt 507, Arlington, VA 22202 Phones: 703-979-1852 (h), 202-663-2584 (w), and 202-577-4448 (c) Best e-mail (I rarely use Hotmail) is beisboldr@yahoo.com Fraternally, David Beam Kathleen Lockard Palma (Line 75): long overdue update (10/14/2005) Well, since I've been in contact with brothers/sisters I've graduated from lawschool, moved back to the DC area, got married, had two jobs (I now work for GE in their DC office, focusing on international trade issues) and most recently had a baby. Our son Andres was born July 30, 2005 and is doing great. How's that for news? Jon Bildner (Line 64): Phone Number and Family Address (10/10/2005) Please delete family address. Please change home phone number to: 561-736-1155. All other info is OK Jennifer Bakht Doverspike (Line 95): Engaged! (10/9/2005) Adam Doverspike (89) and I got engaged on 7/26/05. The wedding is next September 06, and we'll be living in Chicago to join the ever-burgeoning Mu Alpha Chicago contingent. Tina Howard Gsedl (Line 60): Home with our son (9/21/2005) The Gsedl crew has returned safely to the plains of Illinois, this time China was generous enough to let us bring home a son. Our new addition is Wen Jin (Stephan) Gsedl. His birthday is April 2, 2001. He is four years old - 19 months younger than Nina and three years and 11 months younger than Ella. Such planning on the Lord's part - an 8, 6, and 4 year old and I am ONLY 40.... Our journey to our first son and third child from China took a number of turns along the way. We found his picture and file with our agency on 2/11/2005 and filed a complete dossier on 4/15/2005 - fast for even a program manager like me. We were blessed by many things on our trip - taking 5 people (my Mom came with) half way around the world was actually fun. Even good old United cooperated by letting me cut lose 750,000 frequent flier miles for the tickets. Unfortunately there are still plenty of miles on the account. (Yes - I still travel a bit.) I thank those of you who were kind enough to pray for us on this journey. We enjoyed a wonderful trip and are blessed with a tremendous little boy. Wen Jin is adjusting very well and literally rocks the house. Despite his leg brace, he can still climb and run with the best of the crew. I am beginning to rethink all the hardwood floors. It's loud! We will be in at Children's in Chicago next week for our first assessment. I am pretty sure that professional figure skating is not in his future, but many other wonderful things are. We are planning the trip East in March - 20.5 years after I pledged - hope to see you all then. Peace and Brotherhood- Tina (Mommie Dearest only to APO - Line 60) Bill Watkins (Line 11): Update (9/13/2005) Let's see, so the VA has decided I am a 100% disabled vet, so I will now get to shop in commissaries and PXes. Good thing, since Peg pushed me to go for Social Security disability and they say we have too much resources. According to them, I make $80,000 a month. If I do, it certainly isn't making it into my bank account. Peg was re-elected Mayor, second son Matt FINALLY married the girl he asked when they were five years old, Kirby got two degrees from UVA and wandered off to Prague for a year, Maggie spent last year at U of Cork and is finishing up at Loyola MD and oldest son got divorced. Sad but we knew it was a bad match, even though Peg did everything in her power to support this girl. Five hospital stays for foot operations over past year plus and one for pneumonia right after reunion. One more foot operation to go. Can't win. Naturally, all this foot garbage started right after Peg bought me a nice new set of Callaway irons. Ah well, guess I won't be going out on the PGA Tour any time soon. Gary Chyi (Line 85): in Cleveland (9/1/2005) Just moved to Cleveland a couple of weeks ago, for my new job clerking for a federal district judge. Settling in just fine, and trying to meet some new people, since this city doesn't have quite the alumni population that Chicago does. I'm here for the next two years. After that, hopefully back to Chicago, but who knows . . . Jason Kovnesky (Line 74): Coming to you from Montana! (8/12/2005) Howdy and greetings from the great state of Montana! Hope all is well with the brothers and sisters. Thought I would update everyone on what is going on here in the Big Sky State! All is well. Still working for a not-for-profit here in Montana. Lots of traveling and doing what I really enjoy--business development and creating programs to help offenders and others involved in correctional systems....I am focusing most of my energies on youth programs. On the non-work side of things...I am still a scoutmaster with a local Boy Scout Troop...In fact, we completed our second 75-mile hike this summer in the Pintlar Wilderness. We are going to try for the mountains of Utah next year. I am also doing the volunteer work thing and I am on the local board of directors for our chamber of commerce. Still single...but my black lab, Sayers, and I are having a great time with my new neice and nephew. Well...You never know who might show up this fall and for the 50th! Be safe! Jason Adam Doverspike (Line 89): World Bank, University of Chicago, Engagement (8/4/2005) Just a normal week... when bam... You propose to your girlfriend (Jennifer Bakht, Line 95), switch jobs, and start packing for a cross-country roadtrip to graduate school. I'm creating a financial access survey for the World Bank right now. But I will be leaving at the end of August to begin the Economics PhD program at the University of Chicago. And while trying not to be daunted by attending the place "where fun goes to die," I have the great fortune to look forward to marrying a wonderful lady next Fall. Looking forward to seeing everyone this Fall and again for the 50th Anniversary. Stephanie Russo (Line 68): New Everything (6/21/2005) The Evite for the 50th mentioned updating information on this site, and I realized that everything has changed...except for my name :-) I got a new job last year, after 8 years at White & Case...I'm now working for a software company downtown. My boyfriend Dave and I moved in together - with two incomes I can finally live in a one-bedroom instead of a studio apartment! I'm writing a book with a friend of mine about the years we spent traveling while we were at White & Case. We're going to concentrate on "The London Years." I think that's it - for now. 11/15/05 update Have moved jobs again, to work as a senior producer at an interactive advertising agency. Caryn Lee Gross (Line 83): (6/21/2005) Talk about life changes! I just got married, became a stepmom to an adorable 4 year old, changed jobs, and am moving out to the burbs....Feeling very blessed. Hope everyone is doing well, and line 83-see you at the 50th! Erwin Abalos (Line 85): Hello Everyone! (6/21/2005) I wonder who in APO actually remembers me... Anyway, just a quick update on what I have been doing since Georgetown. I currently work full time as a Scientist for a pharmaceutical company (Hoffmann-LaRoche), and I live in New York. I also attend law school part time (one more year, yeah!). Before law school, I went to Wharton at the University of Pennsylvania. As you can probably figure out, I got bored of my Biochemistry degree from Georgetown! I hope everyone is doing great! Corinne Tapia (Line 89): New everything (6/3/2005) I have a new job and I like it. it's better than yours! call me for a drink! Don Reilly (Line 41): Head in the Clouds (4/28/2005) I am currently single, with my second divorce being final in March of last year. I have three children, Michael (22), from my first marriage, and Katie (15) and Brian (13) from my second. Michael is in his fourth year at U of M (on a full ride). He is a Life Member of APO, and a brother and past president of the Epsilon Mu chapter. Katie now has her learners permit, need I say more? In 1993, MCI transferred me to Colorado Springs, where I lived until 2000. Then, a victim of the WorldCom layoffs, I was relocated to the Bay Area by my new company. After two years there, I am back in Colorado. I now live on five acres in the middle of nowhere, with a beautiful view of Pikes Peak from my back yard. My house is at 7300 feet above sea level. (Amazing what you can buy in CO when you sell a house in Northern California!) Did I mention that I work from home? I am currently a computer consultant working at home. I am enjoying skiing, tennis, running, bowling, cooking and occasional golf. Steve Pyrak (38), Bill Fung (38) and I get together whenever Steve comes to Denver on business. Michael and I went to the 2004 National Convention in Denver last December. It was great! I got to spend time with a bunch of old friends and meet some new ones. Michael and I have already decided that we are going to attend the 2006 Convention. I will definitely be at the 50th (my 30th). Look forward to seeing everyone. Karen Haasen (Line 56): Memories... (4/28/2005) Last night, Greta Anderson Goto and I laughed over fond APO memories, and then today, I received that email regarding the 50th aniiversary next year...Anyway, I've been in Chicago now for almost 16 years, still working at the same University. I've been married for 12 years, and our daughters Erica and Jane will be 11 and 9 years old this summer. The oldest is already discussing college options...where does the time go? Lee Dioso (Line 60): I can't be forty! (4/28/2005) If I were 40 that would mean it's been 20 years since I pledged. If I were 40, Meilin and I would be approaching our 16th anniversary. But we still live in Arlington, VA, having migrated across the river right after graduation. If I were 40, why would I still be pulling all nighters? It's not as if I'm wasting study time hanging around in Copley basement. I guess I stay up late working because I don't want to sacrifice quality time with Robert, 10, and Caroline, 5, so I don't crack the laptop until after they've gone to bed. Actually, I don't have to work that hard too often. I'm a management consultant at CDM, an environmental engineering firm, and as long as I pull an all-nighter every once in a while, I look like a hero. Forty. Ah well. Fall '05 is the 20th anniversary for Pledgeline 60. And there's something special the following semester too, I think. Lee Anice Schervish (Line 79): (4/26/2005) I'm moving back to DC to take a job still with HUD at Headquarters running a grant program for supportive services for public housing residents. Tina Howard Gsedl (Line 60): It's a boy! (4/6/2005) With enormous joy we announce the referral of our son Stephen Wen Jin Gsedl who turned four years old 4/5/05. He joins daughters Ella and Nina. Stephen currently lives with a foster family in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, China. Brian Danaher (Line 52): (4/1/2005) Brian Danaher is an attorney for Sunrise Senior Living in McLean VA, but living in Washington DC. He just returned from a safari in South Africa, an experience he recommends to everyone. Gloria Alvarez (Line 44): (3/15/2005) Motherhood, teaching, writing and freelancing keep me busy in Houston which is a shockingly wonderful place to live. Still making pots at a local studio. I recently donated several to a fundraiser for a Houston foodbank. Thanks for the details on the 50th. I'll mark my calendar now!! Carolyn Dawkins (Line 54): Looking forward to the 50th (3/15/2005) I'll be there! Hope to see lots of linemates, brothers and old friends. :) John Harding (Line 55): (3/15/2005) John, his wife Susan and three children just relaocated to St. Petersburg Fl where John accepted a position as Vice President at All Children's Hospital. He is looking forward to the opportunity to work on his golf game year-round (it needs it). Scott Barney (Line 64): (3/15/2005) Scott has a new job woking part-time from his house in SF and part-time for his new company in Strasbourg, France. His spare time is engulfed by art collectives--two in SF (www.sugarvalley.org and www.cellspace.org) and one in Black Rock City (www.playafairies.com) Bob Gazzale (Line 64): (3/15/2005) Received my PhD in Economics from the University of Michigan in 2004. I started as an Assistant Professor at Williams College in September 2004. In January, Barbara and I welcomed the newest addition to our family--Tomba, the cutest puppy imaginable! Shannon Kahle (Line 87): Looking forward to 50th (3/15/2005) I can't make this spring, but I will definitely be marking my calendar early for the big 50th Anniversary!! Im' in my second year in NYU Law and heading out to San Fran this summer for an internship with the Employment Law Center, part of the SF Legal Aid Society. I'll be working on their Gender Equity Project and am excited to be in CA again before deciding post-law school plans. Best to all! Anna Lisa Namata (Line 83): (3/9/2005) I'm trying desperately to stay sane while working full-time, going to graduate school, and working on getting my clinical hours done. I'm now working at the Pediatric ICU at Georgetown University Hospital and grad. school (finishing up my Master's in Nursing, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner this August) at Georgetown University as well. This semester, I'm at the Washington Hospital Center for my clinical rotation in a cardiovascular surgery step-down unit. It's been fun but a lot of work and very little time for play. I really do miss you all and I appreciate your keeping me in the loop of what's been going on with APO. Tom Liebermann (Line 21): (3/1/2005) The airline industry is in major turmoil with large pay cuts and uncertain futures I am just hoping to survive the next 2 1/2 years to retirement. My son, Greg, was married this past year in Novato CA. The wedding was attended by Jerry and Betsy Schroeder and John McGuire. I can't make it to New Brother this year, but will mark my calendar for the 50th! Nancy Gordillo Metzger (Line 59): (3/1/2005) My husband Bruce and I welcomed Elise Claire Metzger in February 2005. We live near Catholic close to Andre's mom. At work I am managing a US State Department project on access to finance development in Jordan. Kathryn Forbush Schatz (Line 74): (2/17/2005) Unfortunately I will not be able to attend Mu Alpha weekend because teaching and motherhood are keeping me so busy. It's good to hear the fraternity is still going strong and making an impact on the Georgetown campus and beyond. Michael J. Smith (Line 26): (2/14/2005) Right now I am an assistant professor of French and Spanish at Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee. My best regards to all the brothers and sisters of Alpha Phi Omega! Caryn Lee Gross (Line 83): Off the market! (2/14/2005) I am getting married on June 4, 2005 to my boyfriend of two years, John. We recently bought a house out in Bristow, VA and will be moving there once construction is completed! http://weddings.theknot.com/pwp/view/co_main.aspx?coupleid=3238057362501840 Archie Ruparel (Line 95): (2/14/2005) Unfortunately, I'll be in the middle of the semester in Paris, so I won't be able to make it to Mu Alpha Weekend this semester. Next semester, however, I'll be there. I'm finishing up my masters (working on the thesis, now), and I hope to be working in DC or NY by the beginning of next semester. Alex Scherer (Line 81): And then there were three (2/11/2005) Georgia Kay Scherer arrived on 2/7/05. You can see how cute she is (in my unbiased opinion of course) at http://homepage.mac.com/ascherer/gks Joyce Gray (Line 97): Mailing Address (2/3/2005) 3031 Andover Drive St. Louis, MO 63121 USA Bryan Dalton (Line 54): from Romania (2/1/2005) Hello, old friends. Nam and I will be in Bucharest until 2007 and I'm curious to see if anyone from APO makes it across Transylvania to visit. Krista Smith Robertson (Line 89): new info (1/31/2005) Decided to stay in NM for law school based on the exchange program for IP law with Franklin Pierce Law Center in New Hampshire, where I'll be spending an exciting summer (and hopefully) fall. Scott Beale (Line 81): Lots of changes! (1/24/2005) Courtney Kramer (87) and I are living in New Delhi, working in the US Embassy, engaged and coming back to DC in March to get married, take Spanish and head to Bogota, Colombia. Courtney is enjoying the Foreign Service, and I am starting a new nonprofit that is essentially a "reverse-peace corps" taking rising leaders from the developing world to volunteer in the US for a year. www.atlascorps.org. We'll see you at the 50th! Katie Kosec (Line 89): Working in D.C. (1/24/2005) Working at the AEI-Brookings Joint Center for Regulatory Studies (1150 17th St., NW). Elizabeth Khalil (Line 80): Happy 2005! (1/23/2005) Hi all...I'm still living in DC (Cleveland Park) and hope to make it to Newbrosis this spring. I am still hosting sandwich-making parties at my place for Martha's Table about once a month, so let me know whenever if you might be interested. They're usually on Sunday afternoons, which can be otherwise boring and uneventful - but not when you're covered in peanut butter and jelly! (Or is that just me?) Anyway, I'm still working as a lawyer for part of the Treasury Dept. and doing some writing and lots of aerobics. Last August ('04) I was a bridesmaid in the wedding of Becky Pawlowski. She married Dan Aloisi, who is not a Georgetowner but still a cool guy. In November (also '04) I walked in the Help the Homeless walkathon with Komar Ieng and his wife Davine, and we ran into Jan Sacharko there with a large following of APO undergrads! Scott Greenwald (Line 65): (12/31/2004) Scott came back from Iraq in time to spend the holidays with his family. Alex Scherer (Line 81): Next up...the baby (12/23/2004) Nicole is due in February, wish us luck! Hope to see you all at the 50th anniversary, if not before. Devashree Gupta (Line 74): (12/14/2004) Greetings to everyone from sunny South Africa! I've moved to Cape Town and am enjoying spending the winter months in a place where it's sunny all the time and the beach is a 10 minute walk from my apartment. Visitors are welcome, as Cape Town is a fantastic place to spend some time. I'll be wrapping up my research here in mid-March and heading back to upstate NY to write up the dissertation and then beg for a job at one of our fine institutes of higher education. Jenifer Stephens Keenan (Line 71): Greetings! (12/2/2004) My husband Drew and I were married 11/17 in New Zealand. We got married on Waiheke Island, a small island off the coast of Auckland, and then traveled around the North and South islands for a week and a half. The ceremony was beautiful -- it was just the two of us and took place on a hill overlooking the ocean. Dave Cartee was there in spirit -- he called us on our wedding day to send his best wishes. Leah Marcus (Line 83): (11/14/2004) Leah Marcus has been working as an ESOL teacher in Carroll County, MD and she just bought her first house in Owings Mills, MD (near Baltimore). Pledges and brothers are welcome to visit. Noelle Kurtin (Line 66): Newest Family Member! (11/12/2004) Chris, Amanda and I welcomed Chloe Kurtin Rutledge to our family on June 17, 2004. I can't believe that she's almost 5 months old already and that Amanda is 3 1/2! Having two girls now is great fun and we love living in Silver Spring, Maryland. Greg Belli (Line 34): The Long Version (11/11/2004) I have "just" 13 years to go before I can tap what's left of the Social Security fund. Son Michael made me a grampa in mid-April and daughter Ursula will enter college in another year. Texas has more diverse geography than Florida but no real beaches and poorer pay, despite generous bilingual stipends. Austin has great music! Clay Bradley (Line 56): Good news to share with my Brothers (11/11/2004) After coming out three years ago, I'm now living in Beaumont Texas with my partner, Jim. I work for an independent living center, snug once again in the warm embrace of the federal government. Hopefully, I'll be able to help a few people with disabilities live exciting, chaotic lives such as mine. Stacey Engelbrecht Rufe (Line 71): (11/11/2004) Charlotte Joan Rufe was born January 20, 2004. I'm doing the full-time-mom-thing which you'd think would seem like a break after 5 years of practicing law, but no. We moved to the Richmond VA avrea in August and are settling in to the new place. Vince Green (Line 64): Married (11/9/2004) Victoria and I married on September 5th in Newport, RI. In attendance were Rabbi Robert Tobin (62) and wife Lisa, Chris Rutledge (64), David (62) and Kathi (74) Kaiser, Michael Cervino (62) and Kindra Tully (59), Dr. David Miller (63.5) and wife Suzy, and Aleks Stankovic (65) and Stan Reeser (square root of -1). Vix and I honeymooned in Northern California, starting in Napa and ending up in redwood country. Look forward to seeing y'all at New Brother. Leslie Walls Gibson (Line 58): Moved to Altanta (11/4/2004) We moved to the north Atlanta suburbs in 2003 and just love it. The area is very family-friendly so Kara (5), Trent (3) and Brendan (2) are having a great time. Grant and I celebrated our 10th anniversary in May 2004. Glad to hear Mu Alpha is doing well. John Anderson (Line 66): (10/31/2004) I was recently married to a Filipina on Kauai named Estrella and we have a 3 y/o boy named Crayfish. Dave Miller (Line 63.5): (10/14/2004) Dave and Suzy have completed their home-buying odessy, closing on a house in DC on Oct. 1st. Chris Rutledge (Line 64): (10/14/2004) Chris and Noelle's new daughter Chloe arrived in July. Chris, Noelle, Chloe and older sister Amanda all joined the undergrads at Meet the Chapter, intriguing many a prospective pledge. Adam Stellato (Line 81): (10/14/2004) Graduated in May 2004 from American University's M.A. in Public Communication program. Pics and updates at http://www.adamstellato.com/. Marc Stahl (Line 59): (10/11/2004) Mark & Ellen were graced with their second child, Josephine, born on Oct. 11, 2004 Katrina Church-Chmielowski (Line 66): DC trip (10/6/2004) Hey, Celia, Mathias & I thoroughly enjoyed our DC trip and going to Meet the Chapter. It was great to see everyone again. When are you coming to Alaska? :-) Wes Clark (Line 28): Never Be Ordinary (10/1/2004) Have BSFS, JD, and LL.M. LL.M. thesis was published by Oceana. Spent 3 yrs. in the Army active duty and 17 yrs. in the Reserves--all as a JAG. Worked as a civilian attorney with Army CID for 10 years. Was organized crime trial attorney for DOJ 3 1/2 years and have spent past 9 with DEA, 7+ with International Law Section, now with Domestic Criminal Law Section. Last publication was in August 2004 FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin. Have wonderful wife, Beth, and 4 kids by previous marriage: Carene (26), Ryan (24), Allison (21), and Kevin (18). "Never Be Ordinary" is from "Dead Poets Society." Am good friends with Brother Ray Yacouby; we both miss our departed "Pooh Bear," Brother Rick Pettinger, who left us before his time. Maybe heaven needed someone to make them smile and laugh. Jessie Jowett Black (Line 75): New baby (10/1/2004) William David Black was born January 15, 2004, weighing 7lb, 4oz, and 20 & 1/2 inches long. Will is a super-great 8 month old who laughs at everything, is interested in all things electronic (remotes, x-box controllers, keyboards), and has a fascination with lighting fixtures and ceiling fans. More photos than you could ever possibly be interested in are available by email upon request. Laura Glazer Gebhardt (Line 83): Crazy 6 Months (10/1/2004) James (Line 82) and I have had a very hectic, but exciting, last 6 months. On March 26, 2004, we welcomed our first child, Edgar Reed. Edgar is quite a smiley spunky little guy and he brings us endless joy. Parenthood is definitely a fun and rewarding challenge. This spring we moved away from Seattle and bought a house in the suburbs of Rochester, NY. In June, James graduated from the University of Washington Medical School and began his 4-year residency in OB/Gyn at Strong Memorial Hospital, which is part of the University of Rochester. James is working extremely hard, but we are still finding time to enjoy upstate NY and root against the Yankees. Shannon Kahle (Line 87): Address Update (10/1/2004) Hey all - I'm in NY, at NYU for my second year of law school. I can be reached at stk221@nyu.edu - my new mailing address is... 11 Jones St. Apt. 19 New York, NY 10014 Thanks! Shannon Dave Kaiser (Line 63): (9/27/2004) I recently defended my dissertation in computational semantics, entitled "Modeling Entailment-Based Semantics in Polish Using Phases and Second Order Logic," for the departments of Linguistics and Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Chicago. http://home.uchicago.edu/~dwkaiser/ explains why you should give me a job, and offers a cute picture of me and daughter Samantha. Scott Beale (Line 81): (9/19/2004) Life in New Delhi continues to amaze me and frustrate me, but in general I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the friends I have made and the large number of younger professionals I’ve met to share my experiences, exchange ideas, and learn from. Courtney and I visited the Taj Mahal last month and I was blown away by the beauty of the building. We’re playing tennis, volunteering with kids, meeting internationals, and generally feeling quite blessed to be living the life we are living while we still miss our friends and family very much. The poverty is still quite overwhelming, but no longer paralyzing as we gain greater understanding of the world around us. This fall I start a new job at the US Embassy in Delhi to coordinate efforts at counter-trafficking of women and children in India. Scott Greenwald (Line 65): (4/1/2004) Scott Greenwald deployed to Iraq this spring Eva Bordeaux (Line 73): Heellooo!!! (3/15/2004) Just a quick note to let everyone know I'm still kicking. Mike and I were married on October 31st, in Rapid City,SD. Sadly, we will be unable to attend New Bro/Sis this year but are hoping next year. I am job searching and am hoping to head back to DC... my home away from home. I hope all are doing well and hope to see many in the future!! Thomas Allen Powers (Line 51): (3/8/2004) I'm planning to begin a PhD in German this fall. I'll send the details later. Gwen Orlowski (Line 55): (3/8/2004) My huband Chris Scherer (CAS '88) and I have three children--Jack (10), Henry (7) and Maeve (5). I'm working at Legal Services of New Jersery running a senior citizen's legal rights project. Pedro Cafasso, Line 53, is Jack's godfather. Jeanne Bellwoar Stallman (Line 56): (3/8/2004) I've been living in Oregon since 1987, married for 12 years, have two children (5 and 8) and a 22 year old stepdaughter. I love living in Ashland--a beautiful little town surrounded by forests and mountains and a great cultural life. It is home of the Oregon Shakespeare Fesitval. West Coard APO folks should give me a call if they are passing through--we' just off I-5 near the California border. Brandon Avella (Line 70): (3/8/2004) This March we will be doing a major bilateral military exercise with the Greeks in preparation for the Summer Olympics. I'm looking forward to a year in DC starting in July. I will be earning an MS in Strategic Intelligence at Bolling's Joint Military Intelligence College. John Casciano (Line 17): (3/1/2004) After 32 years in the Air Force and five in private industry, I decided to open my own business, Graystar Associates. We specialize in advising small businesses in strategic planning, positioning, and cap[ture managemenr in the defense sector. I'm also enjoying my three grandsons, Bennet (6), Charlie (5) and Will (3). Julie Woodside Hendrickson (Line 66): (3/1/2004) Thinking of all of you and APO--especially when I see the email traffic. So good to see the activity in service. I came back from deployment to Iraq last September--honored to serve in support of the Marines. Headed to GUam for 2 years now. Take care! Sean O'Malley (Line 59): Happy on the Hudson (2/9/2004) Hey, super communication tool. It is great to read what everyone else is up to... Hi everyone! As for me, in 2003 I married Siobhan in her hometown in Ireland (witnessed by brothers Marc '59, Ellen '64, and baby Zach Stahl, and double-brothers Tim '43 and Kevin '49 O'Malley), started a new job at a pharmaceutical firm, and moved to Nyack NY. It was one of my more productive years... Come and visit... Sean Kennedy (Line 59): Romans (2/5/2004) Gina and I still live in Rome, Italy-both working for the United Nations. We remain in the same downtown apartment with a view of the Colosseum. Have had lots of visitors and more are always welcome. Joanna Peraino Musumeci (Line 85): (2/5/2004) I got married to Joe Musumeci (COL '01) in June '03 and we're living in a lovely little apartment in Baltimore. Emily Porter (Line 88): Off to Bali, then home, then to NYC and DC for New Bro/Sis (2/4/2004) Well, I survived my first semester as a medical student at the University of Iowa. Second semester has proved equally challenging, however, this semester I'm actually learning some clinical skills which is making it somewhat worth putting myself through this torture. There is relief--we have a week long break February 7-15 and my mom and I are spending it in Nusa Dua Beach, Bali, Indonesia. I'm going to study in the airport and on the plane and when I'm jet-lagged. While there, it's all about the beach and the spa. Then back to school for a month and on March 12 I'm off to NYC to visit my friend Teresa Weber (Line 87) for 5 days. The second part of my spring break will be to spend some time in DC including attending the full range of events for Mu Alpha week. It really stunk to miss it in the fall, so I'm excited to be able to go this spring. I hope to see many of you there! Dick Stratford (Line 23): (2/3/2004) Dick Stratford is the Director of Nuclear Energy Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, and is currently spending a good deal of his time travelling to Vienna, with occasional sojourns to Moscow, Paris, Seoul and Taipei. He and several alums and undergrads had a terrific time at the APO National Convention in New Orleans in December 2002, and Dick is already planning for the next convention in Denver in 2004. Katrina Church-Chmielowski (Line 66): (2/3/2004) Mathias Edwin was born October 6 and is a wonderful addition to the family! Laura Glazer Gebhardt (Line 83): Big Changes (2/3/2004) James (line 82) and I are expecting our first child in mid-March. We've resisted the temptation to find out the baby's gender, so we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the newest Gebhardt (as is our current only-child, our beagle, Morgan). James is finishing up his last few months of medical school and will begin his residency in OB/GYN in June. We'll find out in March where he "matches" for residency, so we'll be moving away from Seattle after spending some great years here. Freddie Fields (Line 61): Fred Fields, Line 61 (2/2/2004) Fred has returned to his hometown of Brooklyn NY and is running the Taproot Foundation (www.taprootfoundation.org), which connects volunteer business professionals to nonprofits in need of top-notch profesional services, delivered free. Got to see the Lieberman's on a trip to MN which was a treat. Ine Leus (Line 87): Hurray for Mardi Gras!! (2/2/2004) Still living the glamorous life of a med student down in Nawlins, Louisiana. I gotta say, it's more work than everyone says...=) Just kidding. At least Mardi Gras season has begun Dave Vanness (Line 71): Back in Land O' Cheese (1/19/2004) Erin (Line 70) and I are back in Wisconsin after 4 years living in captivity at the World Famous Mayo Clinic. Her residency done, Erin's now a faculty member in the UW Department of Dermatology. I teach and research the economics of medical technology and health insurance, also at the UW Medical School. We're glad to be back close to a nucleus of bros/sis in Chicago! Just came back from Gail & Jeff's Beerfest X -- wonderful to catch up with old friends (not to say that our friends are _old_, mind you!). If you're ever in Madison, please visit! Devashree Gupta (Line 74): Update (12/21/2003) Hi everyone, I've just recently moved to Northern Ireland for my dissertation research. I'll be here in Belfast through the end of May or June, 2004. I will then be back in the US over the summer and will then be moving to Cape Town, South Africa from September 2004-March/April 2005. The easiest way to get a hold of me in the next few months will be via email: dg78@cornell.edu. And of course, anyong is more than welcome to come and visit me during my expat adventures! Gene Losa (Line 6): (12/1/2003) After 28 years in the Army, I am enjoying my grown children and two grandsons. I visit Georgetown 2 or 3 times a year to participate in Library functions. I maintain contact with several other line 4-7 brothers who live in the DC area. At the 40th reunion of our Georgetown SFS class, only Mu Alpha men attended. Our 45th is coming up next year. I do like to hear that APO still flourishes at Georgetown even though our old meeting place has been demolished. Bill Watkins (Line 11): (12/1/2003) Two of my children are in college and a third is going back. The oldest is doing great in Virginia, but neeeds to go back for an MBA. Guess we keep buying lottery tickets! Peg is up for re-election. She has done a great job, but the Democrats have a lot of Money. Peter Kressler (Deceased) (Line 12): (12/1/2003) In addition to teaching economics at Rowan University, I am busy watching our son and daughter establishing their careers. Michael J. Smith (Line 26): (12/1/2003) Line 26 had 2 pledges Jack Leone and me. Does anyone (other than me) know what Jack's nickname was? Patrick Smith (Line 35): (12/1/2003) I am currently practicing law in Baltimore focussing on civil litigation and product liability. My wife Robin and I have been married 23 years and have three boys: Kevin (18), Chris (14) and Michael (11). Kevin is a freshman at the College of the Holy Cross in MA on an ROTC scholarship and enjoying playing rugby. Chris and Mike attend Loyola Blakefield in Baltimore where they are getting immersed in the Jesuit educational experience. I was glad to make contact with Alex Haggis, Line 35, thanks to his updated entry in this directory. I welcome responses from any of my brothers. Jim Glassen (Line 37): Life is good in New Jersey (12/1/2003) I am working as counsel to the State Commission of Investigation. My wife Mary Anne and I have two kids, Ben (11) and Meg (8). While not taking care of 6-month-old Oliver, I do communications consulting and volunteer financial literacy trainings. I am now an attorney with a plaintiff's firm in Washington DC with an emphasis in medical malpractice. I wrote a book on criminal procedure which was published by West in October 2003. Carolyn Wojcik Finer (Line 66): (12/1/2003) I had my second child, Tess Catherine in Novermber 2002 to join Caroline Grace. The girls are 16 months apart, so we are pretty busy. Kristen Mortimer Miller (Line 74): (12/1/2003) Jeff and I are having a great time with our new baby, Lucy. She was born 6/18 and is a very happy baby! Stacy Sanseverino (Line 74): Hey brothers! GO EAGLES! Scott Barney (Line 64): Pursuit of Happiness (9/29/2003) (The title is just the name of the Weekend Players CD - it's great. Go buy it.) In the same apartment for five years now (for me, a record since birth), I can't imagine leaving San Francisco any time soon. I am getting a little tired of seemingly being the only employed person amongst my friends, but can live their coffee-shop existance vicariously (and afford the coffee). Appears that San Francisco is the last place to rebound from the economic decline. My company was bought by Vignette, so I'm in Austin TX every now and then. Someone tell them that their morning conference calls are my personal hell. Took over 50 people with my theme camp to Burning Man this year, built and took down a 2-storey brilliant structure this year - Playa Fairies rock! (http://www.playafairies.com) Also getting heavily involved with the local artist community (http://www.sugarvalley.org) and this year started spinning fire which is a total rush (http://www.thevenue.org/firespinning.htm). Almost saw Bob Gazzale, but he came to SF while I was in Austin. Thought we might meet at the airport but no such luck! Mike Quinn (Line 63): Update (9/25/2003) The Army brought me back to the eastern US and I am living near Augusta GA with my wife (Chris and 2 boys). Hopefully the staffing situation will improve in the spring and I can make the new brother party then. Vince Green (Line 64): New love/new address (9/25/2003) I got engaged a few weeks back. My fiancee Victoria and I have just moved into a wonderful beachfront apartment in the tiny town of Ocean Ridge, Florida, about 15 miles south of Palm Beach. Work goes well. I'm now with a 3-attorney litigation boutique in Palm Beach, mostly representing European companies with litigation problems in South Florida. See you all at New Brother! Krista Smith Robertson (Line 89): I'm in law school! (9/25/2003) I'm now a full-time law student in the "great" state of New Mexico. Go Lobos, I guess. Anyway, I'm home, I'm poor, but I'm getting an education. Goddess willing, I'll be back in DC to finish up my last 2 years. I find it's a theme in my life to keep returning... Alexander Haggis (Line 35): Alive and well in NJ! (9/24/2003) Hello to all my Brothers, especially all the old timers. I know that I haven't been physically present at any Mu Alpha activities in many a moon but you guys are in my thoughts. Despite my non-attendance, I haven't forgotten the bedrock principle of APO - service to the community. I have been an active volunteer assisting the Passaic County Chapter of Special Olympics for a number of years. And, for the past couple of years, I have been spearheading the North Jersey Food Bank's Thanksgiving food drive here at Ernst & Young. As for what I've been doing for the past 25+ years since I graduated, it would take too much time and definitely be way too boring so I'll summarize. Family - Carrie 22, Jack 20, and Will 15. Carrie just graduated from G'town (SFS) this past May and is now studying for a masters at Oxford. Jack is at County College of Morris and Will is a sophomore at West Morris Central HS. Friends - I still regularly keep in touch with Paul Charlesworth (Line 28/29?)and have seen Ron Boyadjian (Line 35) on occasion. Work - I have been with Ernst & Young since '94 basically working in various practice support management positions. That's all for now. If anyone wants to chat - alex.haggis@ey.com or (201) 872-3280. David Williams (Line 60): On stage / on page (9/24/2003) Last spring I played Fluellen in a production of Henry V, and I'm hoping to play Cassius (evil Jiminy Cricket) in Julius Caesar. Professional life, I've got a book being published by Catholic University Press next summer. Jeff Marcella (Line 64): just 'cause we never put a note here (9/24/2003) Mu Alpha Chicago continues to be the place-to-be for mu alpha alums who decided to make the break from DC, with over 20 brothers, 10+ of whom get together pretty regularly (from lines 59 to 90-something inclusive). Gail and I are well, med-school continues to dominate her time and i've taken up more hobbies (canning vegetables courtesy of chicago's-own-martha-stewart). Likely to miss fall mu alpha, but in town oct 13 week so will be hunting down DC alums and undergrads that week. Katrina Church-Chmielowski (Line 66): another baby (9/24/2003) Baby #3 is expected to arrive October 6. We don't know if it's a girl or boy, but it's another active one! Well brothers and sisters--haven't seen many of you for years but still think of you often...Line 74 mates--keep the faith! Jessie Jowett Black (Line 75): New addition to the family (3/17/2003) No kids yet but we do have a really cool cocker spaniel. This has spurred many special family moments, including the introduction of my mother-in-law's favorite new t-shirt, which reads "Let me get this straight. My grandchild is a dog?" Becky Fiscel Cady (Line 62): (3/15/2003) I'm still working as an attorney in medical malpractice defense for my firm in San Diego while my husband gets his MA at the Naval War College. Gerald Martino (Deceased) (Line 1): (11/8/2002) [From a letter received for Mu Alpha Weekend, Fall 2002] The only other time I received anything from anyone connected to APO was close to 7 years ago, maybe more. I notice it was a girl who was president of the chapter. The only females were in the S.F.S. or were nursing students when I attended Georgetown. Not only was I line 1, but I am the one who started the Mu Alpha chapter on campus. I had to go to the University of Maryland in order to become part of the organization. Afterwords at GU about ten other students joined and membership was allowed only to members of the SFS. No Frats existed in the College. Our only fundraiser was an Ugliest Man on Campus Contest. The money raised we used to bring toys etc. to an orphanage run by Catholic nuns at the other end of NW. We all got keys similar to the one on your letterhead and I still have it. There were several other frats which had houses off campus. I also belonged to one called Gamma Rho Sigma, a professional one. I was in the field of education for the better part of my life teaching and coaching at both the public school level and at a catholic academy. Then I moved up to the college level again teaching and coaching in one in N.Y.S. I taught Geopolitics. Then I became coach on the college level and my last job was at the only Jesuit College in N.J. "St. Peter" College. I have written and had published a coaches' text in track (After I had a young man set a world's record) and also one for the judging and coaching of swimming and diving. I was a commissioner in the Old A.A.U. and held a position on the U.S. Olympic committee. (Was supposed to go to the 1980 Olympics but the U.S. Participation was cancelled.) I am also a poet and a painter having some of my poems published and having had 2 one man art shows. I have been married for 42 years and did have 3 children but my son died almost ten years ago. I am sorry for being so wordy but the letter did ask what I have been doing. Since 1996 I have been confined to a wheelchair. Larry Frank (Line 23): (11/8/2002) Exec VP/COO of a privately owned $85 million revenue offive systems company. Mayra Fernandez (Line 89): Gleefully Unemployed (3/29/2001) Nothing beats being back at home in East LA :) Andy Hoh (Line 36): (11/1/2000) Found your site by accident, but I was very impressed and glad to see that the Mu Alpha tradition is still actively carrying on at GU after all these years. I have recently digitalized all my old pictures from my undergrad days ('73-'74 and '77-'81) with some great APO shots - I don't know if they'd be at all meaningful to you, but if you want me to send some just drop me a line at hohandy@aol.com. Next week, November 5, 2000 will be the 10th anniversary of the death of a Celestial Brother Mike "KameKazi Klown" Walsh of Line 44. He was a great guy and epitomized the spirit of Service Leadership and Friendship in many ways. The "Klown" part of his nickname came from his doing a clown act, complete with costume, for various charity events and APO projects. The "KameKazi" part came from him being such a bad pledge it was questionable whether he'd make it in or not. I hope you all will remember Mike in your thoughts and prayers on this November 5 and always. As you noticed from my undergrad dates, I was around for quite awhile and had 2 Little Brothers, Lili Ming (line 43) and Joe Saracino (Line 47) which is one of the reasons why the Sequoia Line became as big as it did. Please tell Brother Arrona that not only does he have good taste in Family Trees, but that we also share the same birthday - although I was probably celebrating mine on campus the day he was born. Some factual information for your site. In your history, you state that Mu Alpha started accepting women in 1979. This is a misprint. Our first women pledged on Line 43 in Spring 1977 - after an agonizing vote by the male brotherhood. The first female Brother was Barb Puglisi on Line 43, and her nickname was "Title IX". On my line, Line 36, the Pledgemaster was Jess Jiuliante. On Line 37, the first brother's name is "Ihor Kopka" - he was from the Ukraine (but "Thor" is a cool name too - I'm sure Ihor would like it). But these are minor corrections - I think the time and work you all have put into this site is very commendable and it was great reading all the names of the Brothers, both old and new. Best of luck to you all and keep up the good work and the fine tradition of Service, Leadership and Friendship at Georgetown University. |
